# Equivalency Determination Certificate

### What is it?

An Equivalency Determination (ED) Certificate is a formal recognition issued by a U.S. intermediary organization (such as NGOsource) stating that a non-U.S. organization is the equivalent of a U.S. public charity in terms of structure, purpose, and operations.

Thanks to our ED Certificate, U.S.-based private foundations and institutional funders can donate to Open Collective Europe without having to conduct their own equivalency vetting process. This saves time, money, and administrative work on both sides.

It allows OCE to:

* Receive grants from U.S. foundations that require ED verification
* Provide documentation and compliance assurance to U.S.-based funders
* Facilitate cross-border grantmaking in a secure and trusted manner

### Important clarification

Having an ED certificate does not automatically make donations from U.S. individuals tax-deductible.

For that, we partner with Myriad USA, which can issue tax receipts to U.S. donors for eligible initiatives.
