# Funding from U.S. foundations

Understand Equivalency Determination and check the route before a grant is committed.

An **Equivalency Determination**, often shortened to **ED**, is an assessment used by U.S. grantmakers when considering funding for a non-U.S. charitable organisation.

OCE’s published documentation describes an ED route for U.S. private foundations. If a funder asks for this documentation, [contact OCE](/oceurope/about-1/contact-us.md). Our team needs to check the current documentation and the funder’s requirements for the grant concerned.

## What to send us

* The name of the funder and your collective.
* The proposed activity and funding timetable.
* The funder’s eligibility requirements and any draft agreement.

## A different route for individual donors
